Proclaiming the Light of Christ to South Central Illinois

It's time for a Barn Raising

After almost 20 years in our trailer, WJLY is putting up a new building!  Our trailer has served us well and we have tried to work economically, but we out grew it a long while ago.  The new building will have the same concept as the trailer, except it will be twice the size (approximately 70' X 35').  It will be located west of the current building in the current parking lot and the old house.  The fence will be torn down followed by the old house about a year later.

The first floor will house the studios and offices with a reception area twice the size of the existing one in our trailer. The studio will be in the middle of the building with control areas for both WJLY and WTRH.  The studio will have enough room for staff meetings and group interviews on the air.  Kitchen, bathroom and storage areas will complete the first floor.

The project will proceed in phases.  Phase Zero starts with surveying, flattening of the land and putting in the footings and pad.  The goal is to complete this phase by early summer.

During Phase One the walls, siding, metal roof and furnace installation will be completed.  This phase may be all we can do financially in 2009.

Carpet drywall, windows and lighting on the first floor complete Phase Two of the project.  We hope to complete Phase Two by this fall, but realize it may take until 2010 to finish.

In two to three years, 2nd floor expansion is planned for Phase Three to include more storage and a possible Elijah Apartment.  And maybe a small banquet room to the north for Phase Four.

Our Share Goal: $25,000

We hope to raise an additional $25,000 from our supporters.  Any funds raised beyond that will help finish phase two and move us into the office earlier.

Phase zero and one should cost $36,000 if a ministry will help us build.  Phase two will cost about $17,000 with ministry help.

How will this happen?

Preliminary plans are in the works for a ministry group from Texas, and possibly another to come help us with the construction.  Labor is about half the cost of a building project.  Ministry groups like these travel to different parts of the country to help churches, Christian radio stations, camps and other ministries with new construction, remodels and other projects are truly a blessing.

WJLY will put in the footings and pad. Then our volunteers will take care of the rest.

How can you help?

We have some money set aside for this project, but much more is needed!

That's where you wonderful listeners come in.  Building Shar-a-thon 2009 was held May 15th and 16th to raise money for our new building. And you can still be a part of the fun, prayerfully consider giving to this much needed project!
